In the late summer of 1995, a 23-year-old aspiring musician named Gareth Jim Austin vanished from Medicine Hat, Alberta, leaving behind a mysterious and enduring puzzle. At the time of his disappearance on or around August 17th or 18th, Gareth, who lived in Calgary, was staying at the Park Lane Motel in Medicine Hat. He was reportedly in town to help a friend, Dominic Park, with moving furniture. Friends and family described Gareth as a creative, ambitious, and passionate individual, with a deep love for music. He worked as a waiter and a disc jockey while actively pursuing a career as a rapper under the moniker G.O.D., which stood for "Gareth On Display." His musical ambitions had even led him to Los Angeles in hopes of recording his music and building a future in the industry. Gareth was last seen in the early morning hours of August 18, 1995, at the Park Lane Motel with his friend, Dominic Park. The circumstances surrounding Gareth's disappearance are unsettling and sparse. He and Dominic Park were seen at the motel, which was owned and operated by Dominic's family, in the very early morning. After that sighting, neither Gareth nor Dominic were ever seen or heard from again. A particularly chilling detail emerged when it was reported that Gareth had made a phone call to his girlfriend from a payphone at a Turbo gas station. In that call, he allegedly told her that she would never see him again. The reasons behind this statement and what happened immediately after the call remain unknown. It is not publicly known if he was alone when he made that call or what transpired afterward. Adding to the mystery, Dominic Park's silver and red 1994 GMC truck was found abandoned in Brooks, about 100 kilometers away, later that same day. Decades have passed since Gareth Austin disappeared, but his case remains unresolved. At the time he went missing, Gareth was described as being approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing between 130 and 160 pounds, with a slender build, brown hair, and blue eyes. He had some distinguishing features, including protruding upper teeth and a scar on the top of his left hand. The investigation into his and Dominic Park's disappearance is ongoing, but there have been no confirmed sightings of either man since 1995. It has never been publicly established by investigators whether the two friends left Medicine Hat together, where they might have been going, or what events led to their simultaneous disappearance. The case is a distressing enigma, leaving family and friends with unanswered questions about the fate of the ambitious young musician. The overview of this case is one of two friends who vanished under perplexing circumstances, with a cryptic phone call and an abandoned vehicle being the only clues left behind.
