Thomas Edward Mascaro, a 64-year-old man from Ocala, Florida, was last seen in late 2012 or early 2013. While the official date of last contact is listed as December 1, 2012, some sources state he was last seen on February 22, 2013. Mascaro, also known as Tom, was reported missing in March 2013 by his older brother who resided in Pennsylvania. The brother and other family members had been unable to contact Mascaro for approximately four months.
In March 2013, after months of no contact, a family member visited Mascaro's home in the Oak Run subdivision and found him absent, which prompted them to contact law enforcement. Upon checking the residence in the 10800 block of southwest 80th Court, investigators found everything in order. His car and bicycle were in the garage, and his keys, cell phone, driver's license, debit card, and cash were all inside the house. The mailbox contained about two weeks' worth of mail. Neighbors reported having last seen Mascaro about two weeks prior to his brother's visit.
At the time of his disappearance, Mascaro was described as a white male, standing between 5'8" and 5'10" and weighing between 180 and 220 pounds. He had gray hair, brown eyes, and a full, mostly gray beard. Mascaro was known to frequently walk the trails on the Greenway, sometimes traveling as far as the Pruitt Trailhead and the Ross Prairie State Forest to Ocklawaha Prairie. An extensive search of the areas he was known to frequent was conducted but yielded no clues as to his whereabouts.
The investigation into Thomas Mascaro's disappearance is being handled by the Marion County Sheriff's Office. His family, including a large extended family, has been actively involved in circulating his story in the hopes of finding him.
