In the summer of 2023, concern grew for a 15-year-old female from Norfolk, Virginia, named Gabriella Todman, who was affectionately known as Gabby. She was last seen in the 8600 block of Glen Myrtle Avenue around 1 p.m. on July 24, 2023. At the time of her disappearance, Gabriella was described as being 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing about 135 pounds, with brown eyes and curly, dark brown hair. When she was last seen, she was wearing a black and green hoodie, black jeans, black socks, and black slides. Her mother reported her missing the following day, beginning what would become a period of anxious waiting for her family and community. The investigation into Gabriella's whereabouts took a deeply concerning turn more than a week after she vanished. On August 3, 2023, Gabriella's mother began receiving text and social media messages from someone she believed to be her daughter. However, after a thorough investigation, law enforcement officials announced that they did not believe the messages actually came from Gabby herself. This development heightened the sense of urgency among investigators. While Gabriella had a history of leaving home for short periods, she had always returned within a day. The extended duration of this absence, coupled with the suspicious messages, led police to believe this situation was different and more serious than her previous departures. After weeks of uncertainty for her loved ones and the public, the search for Gabriella Todman came to a positive conclusion. On August 10, 2023, the Norfolk police announced that she had been found safe within the city. Her disappearance, which had prompted public pleas for help and a police press conference detailing the troubling aspects of the case, was ultimately classified as a runaway investigation. The news of her safe return brought relief to the community that had shared in the concern for the teenager's well-being, concluding the overview of a case that fortunately ended not in tragedy, but in a safe recovery.
