Marcos Cruz was last seen on December 15, 1984, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. At the time of his disappearance, he was approximately two years old. Reports indicate that Marcos was left outside a Catholic Church, possibly in the Santurce district of San Juan. Prior to his disappearance, he had been living with a religious group known as the House of Prayer for All People. It is believed that a member of this group abandoned him at the church under the orders of the cult's leader, Anna Young.
At the time he was last seen, Marcos was reportedly dressed as a girl in a pink bonnet and dress.
The House of Prayer for All People was a cult-like religious group led by Anna Elizabeth Young. The group operated under a system of collectivism and held Old Testament-style beliefs. Anna Young was known for her cruel treatment of the group's members, which included starvation, humiliation, and physical abuse. It is alleged that Young ordered Marcos to be abandoned in Puerto Rico because she claimed he was "full of the devil." The story of him being abandoned at a church could not be confirmed, and his ultimate fate remains unknown.
Anna Young was later convicted of child abuse in an unrelated case and served prison time. In 2021, she was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the second-degree murder of another child, Emon Harper, and for manslaughter in the death of Katonya Jackson, both of whom were members of her cult. Young is also considered a suspect in the disappearance of her stepdaughter.
