In the summer of 2018, a young man named Everardo Lopez-juarez disappeared from Culpeper, Virginia. At the tender age of 17, he was last seen on August 9th of that year. Everardo is a Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes. At the time he went missing, his hair was shaved on the sides and longer on top, and he wore contact lenses. He stood at 5 feet tall and weighed approximately 150 pounds. The last time anyone saw him, he was wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans. Everardo had been staying with his cousin in Culpeper. The circumstances of his disappearance suggest he left of his own accord, but his intentions and his ultimate fate remain unknown. He left a note behind, expressing a desire to forego school in favor of finding work. The note indicated that he wanted to earn money to help his family, who were in Guatemala. When he departed from his cousin's home, he took a travel bag containing all of his belongings with him. This poignant detail paints a picture of a young man shouldering a heavy sense of responsibility, making a difficult decision he believed was for the good of his loved ones. Prior to his time in Virginia, Everardo had spent a period at a juvenile center in New York called Lincoln Hall Boys Heaven after entering the United States. The investigation into his disappearance was opened, with his case being entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) on August 15, 2018. Despite the passage of time, his case remains active. The overview of this case is one of a young immigrant who, feeling the weight of family obligations, chose a path that led him away from the life he knew in Virginia. The note he left behind offers a glimpse into his motivations, yet the silence since his departure leaves his family and authorities with unanswered questions about his safety and well-being.
