In September 2022, a 25-year-old mother of two named Alyssa Page from Oak Hall, Virginia, embarked on what she told her family would be a two-day trip. She was accompanying a 51-year-old truck driver on his route from Delaware to North Carolina, a journey she had made with him before. On September 13, she sent a text to her mother, letting her know of her travel plans and that she would be home in a couple of days. This was the last time her family would hear from her. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are both complex and heartbreaking, leaving her family in a painful state of uncertainty. Prior to the last leg of the journey, the truck was parked illegally in Exmore, Virginia, where a police officer's body camera recorded a brief interaction. The officer spoke with someone in the passenger seat, and while the image was blurry, Alyssa's family identified the voice on the recording as hers. The journey took a tragic turn in the early morning hours of September 14, 2022. The tractor-trailer ran off Interstate 85 in Hillsborough, North Carolina, struck a bridge, and erupted in flames. The driver and his dog were found deceased at the scene, but there was no sign of Alyssa. The intensity of the fire made the search for any other occupants incredibly difficult. Investigators in North Carolina went over the wreckage multiple times and concluded that the driver was the only person in the truck at the time of the crash. However, Alyssa’s family, who traveled to the crash site themselves, discovered personal belongings they say were hers, including a distinctive pink blanket, a sandal, and an earring. These discoveries fueled their belief that she was in the truck during the crash, despite the official findings. The discrepancy between the family's findings and the official report from the crash scene has left Alyssa Page's case in a state of limbo. Her phone's last known ping was detected on a road in North Carolina, about 62 miles from the crash site, approximately an hour before the accident occurred. There has been no activity on her social media accounts since her disappearance. The Accomack County Sheriff's Office in Virginia continues to actively investigate her disappearance, treating it as an open case. The family has faced numerous challenges, including online harassment, as they continue their desperate search for answers. The case remains an agonizing mystery, with conflicting evidence and unanswered questions leaving a family to wonder what happened to their loved one on that fateful trip.
