In the small community of Cana, Virginia, a young life was tragically cut short. Ashley Glee Leonard, a 14-year-old girl, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2007. Born in Surry County on April 28, 1993, Ashley was a student at Carroll County Intermediate and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Her death brought profound sorrow to her family and all who knew her as a wonderful young person with a personality that outshined her years. Ashley was a cherished daughter, survived by her mother, Tracy Leonard, and her father and stepmother, Danny Leonard, Jr. She was part of a close-knit family, leaving behind sisters Alexandria "Andria" Leonard and Danielle Leonard, as well as grandparents and great-grandmothers. Remembrances from those who knew her paint a picture of a beautiful girl, both inside and out, with a memorable smile. She shared a special bond with her family, and memories of her, from being a shy five-year-old to a loving babysitter, are treasured by her relatives. Funeral services to honor Ashley's life were held at New Beginnings Church, and she was laid to rest in the Dowell Family Cemetery.
