Sonja Kay Redbird, a 19-year-old enrolled member of the Kiowa tribe, was last seen in Dallas, Texas, on January 1, 1975. Originally from Anadarko, Oklahoma, Redbird had relocated to Dallas in 1972. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as a Native American female with brown hair and brown eyes, standing between 5'0" and 5'4" tall and weighing 130 to 140 pounds. In 1974, she attended Moore High School in Moore, Oklahoma.
Redbird maintained regular communication with her family in Anadarko after moving to Dallas. However, her family last heard from her sometime in 1975, after which all contact ceased. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain unclear. Her family had not seen her in person since 1972.
Faced with a prolonged lack of contact and no leads in her case, Redbird's family eventually had her declared legally dead through the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Kiowa Tribal Court.
