On the morning of November 23, 1989, 21-year-old Lorraine Migl Light was last seen in Spring, Texas, at approximately 2:00 a.m.. Earlier that day, she had purchased groceries for the Thanksgiving dinner she planned to host.. After shopping, she went out with friends.. Her mother-in-law dropped her off in her apartment's parking lot around 2:00 a.m.. Light shared an apartment with her sister, Cynthia Migl, who came home at 3:00 a.m.
to find the groceries on the floor and a turkey defrosting in the sink, but no sign of her sister..
A peculiar message on the apartment's answering machine added to the mystery of Light's disappearance.. The caller, purporting to be Light, stated that she had met someone and was going to Mexico for a few days.. However, Cynthia Migl did not believe the voice on the recording was her sister's.. The caller also referred to her as "Cindy," a nickname she never used.. Given that it was Thanksgiving and Light had a three-year-old daughter, her sister found it highly uncharacteristic for her to leave so suddenly.. After Light failed to attend the family's Thanksgiving dinner, her sister reported her missing..
Years later, a new lead emerged when two witnesses allegedly overheard the father of Light's boyfriend making incriminating statements at a nightclub.. He reportedly claimed that no one would ever find her.. Cynthia Migl reported this information to the police, but no action was apparently taken.. Compounding the difficulties in the investigation, the police report regarding this incident, along with the majority of Light's missing persons file, has since been lost..
