On June 22, 2007, Bobby Jones, a 48-year-old musician and radio host, was last seen at his residence just outside of Wharton, Texas, at approximately 10:30 p.m. He was reported missing the following day when he failed to appear for his scheduled Saturday morning radio show on KULP in El Campo, Texas. Jones was a well-known local figure, famous for his role in the Bobby Jones Czech Band, where he played polka music.
Since his disappearance, he has not attended any of his band's performances. It was also noted that prior to his disappearance, Jones had canceled several upcoming musical engagements without providing a reason.
An investigation into his disappearance began after his uncharacteristic absence from his radio show. At his home, there were no signs of a struggle or any foul play. The leading theory from authorities is that Jones was involved in a car accident on his way to work on the morning of June 23. This theory is supported by the discovery of tire tracks along his work route that led off the road and toward the Colorado River.
Further investigation at the scene uncovered the license plate from Jones's vehicle. A subsequent search of the river located his car, a red four-door 1993 Chevrolet Lumina. However, due to the fast-moving currents in the river, investigators have been unable to remove the vehicle from the water to search for Jones's body. The dangerous conditions have hindered any further search and recovery efforts in the river.
