On April 27, 2018, 40-year-old Jason Bruno Azure was with family and friends in Roosevelt County, Montana, when he disappeared into the Missouri River. The group was near the river when two individuals began to struggle in the cold, fast-moving water. Without hesitation, Azure entered the river in an attempt to rescue them.
The conditions in the Missouri River that day were treacherous, with a high and swift current and a water temperature of only 42 degrees. While the two people Azure went in to save ultimately made it back to the shore, he was overcome by the river's strong currents and was swept away. Despite search efforts, he was never seen again.
Jason Bruno Azure is presumed to have drowned in his heroic act of saving others. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a Native American male, standing 6'3" tall and weighing 300 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. His body has never been recovered. The Roosevelt County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Indian Affairs were involved in the investigation.
