In the late spring of 2021, concern grew for the well-being of Raymond William Martin, a 63-year-old man from Crete Township, Illinois. He was last seen on the evening of Saturday, May 22, 2021, when he walked away from his family's residence. His disappearance was particularly worrying because he suffered from dementia and required medication. At the time he went missing, he did not have his cell phone, identification, cash, or any bank cards with him. The family's immediate concern was amplified by his vulnerability due to his medical condition, which could cause him to appear confused or disoriented. Raymond is described as a white male, standing 5-foot-11 and weighing approximately 155 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a couple of distinguishing tattoos: one on his left upper arm that reads "Ray" and a religious cross on his left ring finger. When he was last seen, he was wearing a red flannel long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes, along with his glasses. Following his disappearance, it is believed that he was seen hitchhiking on Exchange Road, somewhere between Route 394 and just over the Indiana border. This area was familiar to him, as he was known to frequent the Matteson and south side of Chicago areas. The Will County Sheriff's Office was tasked with the investigation into Raymond's disappearance, and they reached out to the public for assistance in locating him. They shared his description and the circumstances of his disappearance, hoping for any information that could lead to his whereabouts. The case was classified as an endangered adult and entered into missing persons databases. The overview of the case is that a vulnerable adult with a serious medical condition wandered away from his home without any means of support. Despite law enforcement efforts and public appeals for information, the period following his initial disappearance has been marked by a painful lack of resolution for his loved ones, leaving his whereabouts an open and troubling question.
