Kristopher Charles Loesch, age 10, was last seen on May 16, 2001, in Post Falls, Idaho, in the company of his mother, Tina Rose Loesch, and her partner, Skye Marie Hanson. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are deeply entwined with a history of family tragedy and criminal activity. Both of Tina's parents were murdered in the 1990s; her father, Gary Loesch, was shot to death in 1995 while delivering newspapers, and her mother, Barbara Loesch, was found dead in her hot tub in
1998. Though initially ruled an accident, Barbara's death was later classified as a homicide.
The case took a significant turn in 2004 when Bradley Steckman confessed to electrocuting and drowning Barbara Loesch at the direction of Tina and Skye. The motive was allegedly a $500,000 life insurance policy on Barbara, of which Tina was the beneficiary. Tina and Skye had promised Steckman $10,000 for his role in the murder, a payment he never received. Following this confession, authorities reopened the investigation into Gary Loesch's unsolved murder, believing Tina may have been involved. It was reported that Gary had removed Tina from his will after she revealed her relationship with Hanson.
At the time he vanished, Kristopher was reportedly living with an acquaintance of his mother, Steven Cassell, in Spokane Valley, Washington, and was enrolled in Shiloh Hills Elementary School under the alias Christopher Robinson. He abruptly stopped attending classes, and there were no requests to forward his school records. It is believed that for a period in 2000 and 2001, he was homeschooled by his mother and Hanson.
On October 10, 2008, arrest warrants were issued for Tina Loesch and Skye Hanson for the murder of Barbara Loesch. Their case was featured on the television show "America's Most Wanted" in November of that year. Less than two hours after the broadcast, the two women were found dead in a rural area near Tucson, Arizona, in an apparent murder-suicide. Tina had shot Hanson before taking her own life. A six-page suicide note was found, but it did not admit to involvement in Gary Loesch's death and instead placed blame on Steckman for Barbara's murder.
There was no trace of Kristopher at the scene of the suicides, and his whereabouts remain unknown. Tina and Skye had been living in the Tucson area for approximately seven years prior to their deaths. They had reportedly told acquaintances that they had sent Kristopher to live with his father around the year 2000 due to behavioral issues. The investigation into Kristopher's disappearance is ongoing, with law enforcement in both Idaho and Arizona involved.
