On September 29, 1975, 18-year-old Cassandra "Sandra" Nadine Landrum vanished from her home in Union City, Georgia. At dusk, she left her family's residence to walk a half-block to a payphone at a local Dairy Queen because the family's phone line was in use. Landrum, the youngest of six children, was barefoot and wearing blue jeans and two red shirts, one short-sleeved and one long-sleeved. She was never seen or heard from again.

Landrum's parents began receiving anonymous phone calls from an unidentified person shortly after she vanished. The caller repeatedly claimed that Landrum had been murdered.
