George Wolfgang Dudding, a 45-year-old and well-known sculptor from New York, disappeared on August 8, 1999, while visiting a friend in Ormond Beach, Florida. On that Sunday evening at approximately 11:00 p.m., Dudding went for a walk on the beach and was never seen or heard from again. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and gray jogging shorts. All of his personal belongings, including his keys, wallet, identification, and car, were left behind at his friend's home.
The investigation into Dudding's disappearance yielded few clues. Authorities have considered the possibility that he may have left on his own accord. However, his wife of ten years, Emily Listfield, believes that her husband, who had reportedly been depressed, died by suicide by swimming into the ocean and drowning. His body was never recovered. In 2007, Listfield published a novel titled "Waiting To Surface," which was inspired by her husband's disappearance. That same year, she had him legally declared dead.
At the time of his disappearance, Dudding was a nationally recognized sculptor and painter. He and his wife had a young daughter.
