In the autumn of 2019, a young man from Arkansas named Bobby Lee Rodriguez embarked on a journey that would end in a mystery lasting for years. He was last seen on September 30, 2019, in the rugged landscape of Lemhi County, Idaho, far from his home. He had taken a taxi to an area near Wagonhammer Spring, telling the driver that he was there to meet a relative who was camping. He carried with him a box containing a firearm, which he explained was a gift for this family member he was planning to meet. After he was dropped off, he seemingly vanished, leaving no immediate trace of his whereabouts or the relative he intended to find.
Local law enforcement was notified of the situation by the Springdale, Arkansas Police Department in November of that year. A deputy from the Lemhi County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the Wagonhammer area to investigate.
The deputy spoke with local residents and businesses, hoping to find someone who had seen Rodriguez or anyone matching his description. Despite these efforts, the search yielded no witnesses and no leads. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives traced the shotgun and confirmed it had been purchased by Rodriguez shortly before he vanished. Ultimately, DNA testing provided a positive identification, confirming the remains were those of Bobby Lee Rodriguez.
