An 87-year-old man, Petro Kuqo, was reported missing from Clearwater, Florida, on Friday, December 12, 2025. Kuqo, who suffers from dementia and only speaks Albanian, was last seen at approximately 9 a.m. walking in the parking lot of The Point of Clearwater Apartment Complex, located near Central Avenue and Frontage Road in Largo. Doorbell camera footage captured him leaving his residence at 1845 Oak Trail West. He was last seen wearing a grey pajama-style shirt, dark grey sweatpants, and black shoes. Kuqo did not have his cell phone, money, or any form of identification with him when he disappeared. His family had placed an AirTag in his wallet in case he wandered off, but he left the wallet behind.
Kuqo is described as a white male, standing 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing about 165 pounds, with brown eyes, white hair, and bushy grey eyebrows. He had recently moved to Largo from Greece with his wife and other family members about seven weeks prior to his disappearance. The language barrier is a significant concern for authorities, as he does not speak English.
An extensive search operation was launched immediately after Kuqo was reported missing. The Largo Police Department, with assistance from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Pasco County Sheriff's Office, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, conducted a wide-ranging search. These efforts included on-the-ground grid searches, the deployment of bloodhounds and canine units, and a thorough review of surveillance footage from local businesses and private homes. Marine and aerial searches were also conducted using drones and helicopters. After a week of intensive searching, the Largo Police Department announced on December 19 that they were scaling back the on-scene search efforts, stating their belief that if Kuqo were in the immediate vicinity, he would have been located. However, they emphasized that the investigation remains fully active.
As of December 26, 2025, Kuqo has not been found. His family, including his daughter Linda Mita and granddaughter Elena Mita, have made public pleas for assistance. Both the family and police are urging residents and businesses in the area to review any surveillance, security, or doorbell camera footage from December 12. They have also asked drivers, including those for delivery and rideshare services, to check their dash camera footage for any sign of Kuqo. Authorities and family members continue to distribute flyers and ask for volunteers to help in the ongoing search. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Largo Police Department at 727-587-6730.
