In the summer of 2025, 38-year-old Ganna Kovrizhnykh was on a cross-country trip from her home in Florida when her journey took a bewildering turn in a remote part of Southern California. The last time her family heard from her was on July 5, 2025, while she was traveling through San Diego County. On that day, her mother received a cryptic message containing a photograph of a letter and a set of GPS coordinates pointing to a location in Potrero, California. The letter provided instructions for her mother to be given her personal assets, a message that deeply concerned her family and friends.
A week later, on July 12, a friend officially reported Ganna as a missing person to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. That same day, her Jeep Grand Cherokee and an attached camper trailer were discovered abandoned near the 25000 block of Potrero Park Drive, in the vicinity of the coordinates she had sent. This discovery intensified the investigation, as authorities from the Sheriff's Major Crimes Division began to piece together her last known movements. Investigators learned that Ganna was also known by the alias "Angel Volnaya" and may have been wearing a wig. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance were unclear, leaving open the possibilities that she had vanished voluntarily or had been met with criminal activity. There was also speculation that she might have crossed the U.S./Mexico border into the Tecate area.
As the search continued, more details about Ganna's state of mind prior to her disappearance emerged. It was reported that under her alias, she had made several social media posts discussing the end of the world. One day before she sent the strange message to her mother, she posted a video of herself reading from the Bible. The public was asked to be on the lookout for a woman described as 5'5" tall, weighing around 100 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes, and distinctive tattoos on her arms. Eventually, official reports from the investigating agency indicated that Ganna Kovrizhnykh was found alive. The exact date and circumstances of her being found have not been publicly detailed. This brought a close to a case that began with a woman on a cross-country tour, which then evolved into a mysterious disappearance marked by a strange letter and an abandoned vehicle, and ultimately concluded with her safe location.
