In the summer of 2025, a sense of concern grew for the well-being of 26-year-old Destiny Erts. A resident of Randolph, New Jersey, Destiny was last seen on the morning of Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Dover Public Library on E Clinton Street in Dover. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing black pants, a navy blue tank top, a gray hooded cardigan, and black shoes, and was carrying a light gray bookbag.
Described as a Black female, standing 6 feet 3 inches tall with brown eyes and black hair, her sudden absence prompted an immediate response from law enforcement.
The initial search was centered in and around the Dover area, with the Human Services Police Department, the Dover Police Department, and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Missing Persons Unit working together on the active investigation. As days turned into weeks with no sign of Destiny, authorities described her as "intellectually disabled" and "endangered," heightening the urgency of the search. Investigators began to pursue leads that suggested she may have traveled to New York City, a place she was known to frequent. This led to a multi-agency effort, with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office collaborating with the New York City Police Department, the FBI, and other law enforcement agencies.
After more than three months of uncertainty, there was a significant breakthrough in the case. On October 21, 2025, through the cooperative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, Destiny Erts was found in Harlem, New York. Authorities from New Jersey responded to New York to facilitate her safe return. The Morris County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that she had been located and expressed gratitude to all the agencies involved and the public for their assistance and concern throughout the investigation. While the circumstances of her time away remain private, the news of her being found alive brought an end to a painful period of not knowing for her loved ones and the community. The extensive search and eventual location of Destiny highlight the dedication of law enforcement and the importance of community awareness in missing persons cases.Last Seen: Jul 11, 2025
