James Blu “Bo” Galloway, 53, was last seen in Sheridan, Wyoming, after contact with family at his residence near Westview Drive on April 30, 2025. Family members reported him missing to the Sheridan Police Department on May 5, 2025, after they had not been able to reach him for about a week. At the time, he was living on property along Big Goose Creek near large parcels of land outside Sheridan city limits and near the Sheridan County Airport area.
The circumstances raised immediate concern among those close to him. Reporting from Cowboy State Daily stated that Galloway’s vehicle was left in the driveway and that his three dogs were found locked inside the home with empty food and water bowls, behavior his loved ones said would have been out of character for him. His cellphone, described as having a smashed front glass, and an empty nylon tent-pole bag were later found in a makeshift dugout area overlooking Big Goose Creek on the property where he had been staying.
Law enforcement and search teams pursued multiple leads in the months after Galloway disappeared. The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, began looking into areas outside Sheridan Police Department jurisdiction. Investigators also revisited a May 2, 2025 report of a male subject seen trespassing inside a fenced portion of the Sheridan County Airport property, directly south of where Galloway had been living; deputies searched the area at the time but did not locate the person. Investigators later believed that the man seen near the airport may have been Galloway.
Search efforts were extensive and difficult. In June 2025, five specialized K-9 teams and members of Sheridan Area Search and Rescue conducted a grid search of roughly 600 acres of Sheridan County Airport property. Searchers also examined areas along Big Goose Creek, including later volunteer efforts involving family and community members. Despite those efforts, the terrain, including thick grass, brush, creek areas, and airport-adjacent land, made it difficult to fully eliminate every possible location.
Human remains were later found on the northern part of Sheridan County Airport property by airport personnel. Authorities reported that clothing, personal belongings, and a wallet with identification found at the scene were consistent with James “Bo” Galloway. The Sheridan County Coroner’s Office took possession of the remains, and the case remained under investigation while confirmation was pending.
The remains were ultimately confirmed to be James “Bo” Galloway through scientific analysis, and the case is no longer an active missing person case. The Sheridan County Coroner’s Office determined the case closed after forensic review, including pathology, anthropology, odontology, DNA analysis, and x-rays. Officials reported no suspected foul play, and Deputy Coroner Melissa Reimers stated that x-rays showed no trauma. Because the remains were skeletal, an autopsy and toxicology report were not conducted, and the cause and time of death remain undetermined.
James “Bo” Galloway’s case ended in a heartbreaking confirmation for his family, friends, and the Sheridan community. While the discovery did not bring the outcome anyone hoped for, officials indicated that the findings provided closure in the search for him. The available public information reflects a months-long effort by family, volunteers, local law enforcement, search and rescue personnel, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, airport personnel, and the coroner’s office to find answers after he vanished from the Sheridan area.
