In the autumn of 1976, a 16-year-old boy named Gary Beauchamp disappeared from Canton, Ohio, leaving behind a mystery that has endured for decades. On the evening of October 9, 1976, Gary was last seen wearing blue jeans and a brown t-shirt. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a white male, approximately 5'7" tall and weighing between 80 and 100 pounds. He had blond or strawberry-blond shoulder-length hair. A notable detail about his appearance that night was a cast on his right arm. Gary resided in the 200 block of 24th Street Southeast in Canton. The last known account of Gary's whereabouts came from a 17-year-old friend who was with him that night. The two teenagers were reportedly hitchhiking from Canton to the nearby town of Massillon. An argument led to the boys parting ways. Following their separation, Gary's friend witnessed him getting into an older model, full-sized car at the intersection of 12th Street and Shorb Avenue Northwest around 11:00 p.m. The vehicle was occupied by three other individuals, but descriptions of them are scarce. This was the last confirmed sighting of Gary Beauchamp. He was never heard from again. The case of Gary Beauchamp's disappearance is being handled by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Stark County Sheriff's Office. Despite the passage of time, his case remains open and unsolved. In July 2025, the case was entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), bringing renewed attention to the long-unsolved disappearance. The hope is that this, along with modern investigative tools, might one day shed light on what happened to the young man who vanished on that October night so many years ago. The lack of significant leads over the years has left his family and community with unanswered questions about his fate. The case serves as a somber reminder of a young life interrupted and the enduring pain of not knowing.
