On February 18, 2022, Richard Ronald Walzer, a 55-year-old man, vanished after being last seen at the Medford Airport in Medford, Oregon. He had just rented a silver Nissan truck with the intention of following his sister to Yreka, California. However, he never reached his destination, and no one has reported hearing from him since that day. The plan was simple, a drive from one city to another, but somewhere along that route, Richard's journey took a detour into the unknown, leaving his family with unanswered questions. Several days after he was last seen, the rental truck he was driving was discovered abandoned. The silver Nissan was found on February 25 in a parking lot at the Gold Hill Sports Park, located near an access point to the Rogue River outside of Gold Hill, Oregon. Inside the vehicle, investigators found his cell phone and other personal belongings left behind. This discovery prompted an immediate and thorough search of the nearby Rogue River and the surrounding areas by the Jackson County Search and Rescue team. Despite their extensive efforts over several days, they found no trace of Richard Walzer. The circumstances surrounding Richard Walzer's disappearance remain a mystery. His family has suggested that he might be "living off grid" and may not want to be found, possibly even using an alias. Adding to the complexity of the case, it is noted that he was not in compliance with his requirement to register as a sex offender since 2021. While there have been unconfirmed indications that he might have been in Kansas, Virginia, and Iowa in the years following his disappearance, his case officially remains unsolved. The Medford Police Department continues to list him as a missing person, and the search for answers into what happened to Richard Ronald Walzer after he left the Medford Airport continues.
