In January of 2025, 48-year-old Damian Thomas was last seen in Portland, Maine. He was known to be a transient who often frequented the Bayside neighborhood of the city. Although he would often keep in touch with his family, they had not heard from him since December of 2024. Concerned for his well-being after an unusual lack of contact, his family reported him missing. The Portland Police Department issued a public request for information on March 27, 2025, hoping to learn of his whereabouts.
At the time he was last seen, Mr. Thomas had very long black hair. He was known to have two tattoos: a cross on his right hand between his thumb and forefinger, and a distinctive tree design on his left shoulder.
The search for Damian Thomas came to a sad conclusion on April 11, 2025. On that day, a body was discovered in the attic of a building at 55 Grant Street in Portland. The remains were subsequently identified as those of the missing 49-year-old. The discovery was made in the late afternoon, and the fire department was called to assist in respectfully recovering his body from the attic space. Grant Street is located near Deering Oaks Park, a short distance from where he was often seen.
Following the discovery, the Portland Police Department continued its investigation into the circumstances of his death. While the investigation remained ongoing, authorities stated that his death did not appear to be suspicious. The case of Damian Thomas's disappearance highlights the vulnerability of individuals experiencing homelessness and the deep concern of a family who knew his patterns and raised the alarm when he broke from them. The official search began in late March and ended just a few weeks later with the unfortunate discovery of his remains, bringing a sorrowful end to the uncertainty his loved ones had been enduring.Last Seen: Jan 23, 2025
