Concerned church members, along with his landlord, went to his home to check on him. They found his truck parked in the driveway and the house undisturbed. Inside, his cell phone was on its charger, and his sermon notes were laid out, ready for the service he would never attend. All of his personal belongings, including his vehicle and clothing, were accounted for at his residence. There has been no activity on his bank or social media accounts since the day he was last seen. In the days and weeks that followed, an extensive search was launched by law enforcement and community volunteers. The search efforts covered over 2,000 acres and involved the use of police dogs and helicopters, but tragically, no trace of Whited was found. Tracking dogs reportedly followed a scent trail that abruptly ended at the top of a steep bluff, but there was no evidence to suggest he had fallen or jumped. The case has been described as baffling by the White County Sheriff, who considers Whited a close friend. Despite the passage of time, the investigation remains open, with law enforcement continuing to follow up on any leads in the hopes of bringing him home.
