In the early autumn of 2024, the scenic Oregon coast became the backdrop to a worrying mystery with the disappearance of 61-year-old Daniel Berry Neasbitt. A resident of Vancouver, Washington, Daniel was last seen in the Nehalem area on October 2, 2024. At the time, he was living a transient lifestyle out of his blue Dodge Dakota pickup truck. The last known communication from him was a phone call to his son on October 3rd, during which he mentioned he was planning to drive to Seaside, Oregon. After this conversation, a quiet uncertainty began to settle in, as friends and family were unable to reach him. The concern for Daniel's welfare grew significantly when his blue Dodge Dakota was discovered abandoned on Monday, October 7, 2024. The truck was located on the side of US-Highway 101, just north of Rockaway Beach, with a flat tire. There was no sign of Daniel at the scene. This discovery prompted his family to officially report him as a missing person to the Oregon State Police, who then launched an investigation into his puzzling disappearance. Investigators learned that his last financial transaction was at the Nehalem Food Mart on the same day he last spoke to his son. An examination of his phone records provided a few more clues, revealing that before his final call to his son on October 3rd, Daniel had attempted to contact several automotive repair shops, presumably to deal with his flat tire. The investigation took another perplexing turn with information gleaned from Daniel's cell phone activity. After his last conversation with his son, his phone was apparently powered off. It remained inactive until October 7th, the same day his truck was found. On that day, the phone briefly pinged a cell tower located east of Redmond, Washington, a considerable distance from where his vehicle was left. No calls were made from the device during this brief period of activity, and it has been powered off ever since. Described as a white male with blue eyes and brown hair, who may have had a gray beard, Daniel has distinctive tattoos, including the outline of a heart surrounded by foliage on his left bicep and a snake or cobra on his upper right back. The Oregon State Police have sought public assistance for any information regarding his whereabouts. The case remains a distressing mystery, a story of a man who seemingly vanished after his truck broke down, leaving behind only a few digital footprints and a great deal of concern from those who know him.
