In the spring of 2021, concern began to grow for 33-year-old Brandon Kole Matthews in Port Orchard, Washington. Brandon, a Black / African American male, was last seen around April 1st of that year. At the time of his disappearance, he stood around 6 feet tall and weighed between 235 and 250 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was known to be experiencing homelessness and was living in a camp situated a few miles from his family's home. His family maintained regular contact with him, checking on his well-being frequently. This consistent communication is what ultimately alerted them that something was amiss when they were suddenly unable to locate him. The family's concern turned to alarm when they visited Brandon's campsite to check on him. Upon their arrival, they made a troubling discovery: all of Brandon's personal belongings were still there, but Brandon himself was gone. This was highly uncharacteristic, as he would not have left his possessions behind. He did not own a vehicle, nor did he have a phone, which made the task of finding him even more challenging for his loved ones and for law enforcement. The Port Orchard Police Department was notified, and a report was filed on April 19, 2021, officially marking the start of the investigation into his whereabouts. Despite the efforts of his family and authorities, Brandon's disappearance remains a mystery. Multiple searches of the wooded area surrounding his camp were conducted in the hopes of finding any sign of him, but these searches yielded no clues as to where he might have gone. The circumstances surrounding his case are unsettling, given that he seemingly vanished without a trace from a familiar location, leaving everything he owned behind. The investigation remains open, and the lack of any substantial leads has left his family with unanswered questions and a profound sense of loss. The case is an overview of a vulnerable individual disappearing from the place he called home, a wooded encampment, with no communication or sightings since, leaving a community and family searching for answers.
