Ramon Jaramillo Vasquez, 27, was last seen on the evening of June 25, 1982, in Alice, Texas. He left his home around 8:00 p.m., accompanied by his brother-in-law, Juan Ramon Suarez, in an early 1980s white Ford pickup truck. Vasquez and Suarez had intended to go to a gas station, but Ramon never returned. Later that evening, the truck was found abandoned at the Alice Police Department.
Suarez was admitted to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest that night.
Initially, he claimed the wound was self-inflicted. However, he later changed his story, accusing Vasquez of shooting him. Suarez also alleged that after a struggle, he left Ramon injured along County Road 236. Although Suarez's statements were inconsistent, and he failed a polygraph on two key questions, he has never been charged in connection with Vasquez’s disappearance.
Ramon’s family believes there may have been a third person involved, named Ernesto Hinojosa Jr., who could hold additional information, but no one has ever been officially charged. Over the years, various search efforts and tips have emerged, including rumors that Vasquez’s body might be buried in a 55-gallon drum in Duval County, but no evidence has been found.
