Edward Lawrence DuBarry, known to friends and family as Ed or Eddie, was a 36-year-old man from the Towaco section of Montville, New Jersey, who vanished under puzzling circumstances. On the morning of September 7, 1984, he was last seen at his residence located in the area of Church Lane and Two Bridges Road. At the time of his disappearance, DuBarry was described as a white male, standing at 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing between 140 and 150 pounds. He had light brown hair and hazel eyes. His distinguishing features included several scars on his chin, right elbow, and one on his finger, as well as freckles. He wore upper dentures and was missing some of his lower teeth.
A week after he was last seen, on September 14, 1984, his white 1974 Chevrolet pickup truck was discovered abandoned. The vehicle was found at Resort Point, a scenic overlook on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware Water Gap.
Reports indicate that a rock had been thrown through the passenger side window of the truck. The discovery of his vehicle offered a significant, yet perplexing, piece of evidence in the investigation into his disappearance.
Further investigation uncovered a series of unusual activities involving DuBarry's credit card on the day he went missing and in the days that followed. On the evening of September 7th, his credit card was used to pay for a hotel room at a Howard Johnson in Middletown, New York. That same day, the card was also used at a truck stop in Columbia, New Jersey, and a gas station in Matamoras, Pennsylvania. Four days later, on September 11th, the card was used one last time at a gas station in Pompton Plains. It remains unclear if DuBarry himself made these purchases, adding another layer of mystery to the case. Over the years, law enforcement agencies, including the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and the Montville Township Police Department, have continued to seek information from the public, even releasing an age-progressed photo of what DuBarry might look like.
