On Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1993, 36-year-old Aussie Antionette Binford vanished from Phoenix, Arizona. That morning, at approximately 6:00 a.m., she was at a relative's home in the vicinity of 21st and Campbell Avenues. Before leaving, she told her family she would be right back and asked them to save her a plate of Thanksgiving dinner. Aussie, who also went by the nickname "Annette," was then seen getting into a small, white, two-door car driven by an unidentified white male. This was the last time anyone has reported seeing her. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a black collarless, three-quarter sleeve dress shirt with ruffles on the cuffs that buttoned up the back, and a pink miniskirt. Aussie was a mother and a cherished sister, described by her family as a wonderful and amazing person who was loyal and committed to them. She is a Black/African American female, who at the time she went missing was between 5'1" and 5'3" tall and weighed between 120 and 130 pounds. She had black hair and brown eyes. Two distinctive physical features are a tattoo of the name "Michael" on the back of her right shoulder and a missing right index finger. Years after she disappeared, her daughter recalled the close bond they shared and the feeling that she knew something was wrong when her mother didn't return. The investigation into Aussie Binford's disappearance has remained open for decades, though it has long been considered a cold case with foul play suspected. The lack of modern technology like cell phones and surveillance cameras at the time of her disappearance meant that police had very few leads to follow. A detective who took over the case in 2012 noted the extreme difficulty of the investigation due to the absence of a crime scene or a body. Despite the passage of time, her family has continued to hold out hope for answers. DNA from her family members has been collected and entered into national databases to be compared against unidentified remains, but so far, there have been no matches. The Phoenix Police Department continues to seek information from the public that might finally shed light on what happened to Aussie Binford after she got into that car on Thanksgiving morning so many years ago.
