In the autumn of 1998, Robert "Bob" Michael Bobo, a 36-year-old man, vanished from a remote campsite in Oregon's Rogue River National Forest. On the evening of October 2nd, a female friend dropped Bobo off at his camp located in the Woodruff Meadows area, near the 700 Road, between Prospect and Union Creek. He was a part-time woodcutter and had been living in the area for a few weeks. Later that night, around 9:00 p.m., two hunters passed by and spoke with Bobo, becoming the last known people to see him. He was planning to go hunting with friends the next day, which was the opening of the season. When his friend arrived the following morning to pick him up, he was gone. A search of the campsite revealed a perplexing scene. All of Robert's personal belongings were left behind, including his camping gear, clothing, two rifles, and even his favorite black Pape Cat baseball cap. This detail was particularly troubling to his family, as his brother insisted he would never have gone anywhere without his hat. Bobo had no vehicle of his own at the campsite and was not known to have any money with him. Extensive searches were conducted by authorities in the rugged wilderness surrounding the camp, but no trace of Bobo was ever found. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office investigated his disappearance, finding no immediate signs of foul play, though they did not believe he left on his own accord. The circumstances of Robert Bobo's disappearance remain a mystery. Investigators have considered the possibility that he may have wandered from his camp to scout a different location and suffered an injury or medical emergency, but the complete lack of evidence makes this difficult to confirm. His family, however, has long suspected that he met with foul play. They point to the fact that all his possessions, especially his firearms and cherished hat, were abandoned as strong indicators that he did not leave voluntarily. Despite the passage of time and the persistent efforts of his family, including his brother who regularly searched the area for any sign of him, no answers have emerged. The case grew cold, leaving behind a legacy of unanswered questions and the enduring pain of not knowing what happened to Robert Bobo in the dense woods of the Rogue River National Forest.
