In the winter of 2000, 30-year-old Charles Lee Toliver disappeared from Clinton, Tennessee, leaving behind a life and a set of troubling circumstances that have yet to be resolved. He was last seen on February 4, 2000. At the time of his disappearance, Toliver was described as a white male with red or auburn hair that had blonde highlights, and blue eyes. He stood at 5'8" and weighed around 140 pounds. Distinctive features included pierced ears, a scar on his upper leg, a dragon tattoo on his ankle, and another unspecified tattoo on his shoulder. His family has indicated that he is disabled and may have suffered from mental illness, possibly bipolar disorder. The circumstances leading up to Toliver's disappearance are complex and involve his living situation at the time. He had been residing with a man named Edward McGimsey in Clinton. Concerns for Toliver's welfare arose when a friend, Ernie Lee "Tony" Luhellier, informed Toliver's parents that their son had been in a violent argument with McGimsey, which allegedly resulted in bloodstains and holes in the wall of their home. When his parents went to check on him on February 6, they found no evidence of a struggle, but their son and his dog were missing. McGimsey claimed that he had dropped Toliver off at a rest stop on Interstate 75 near the Tennessee-Georgia border, where friends from Atlanta were supposed to pick him up. He stated Toliver was carrying $200 in cash. However, Toliver left behind all of his clothing and personal belongings. The investigation into Charles Toliver's disappearance has been marked by a series of perplexing and concerning events. Two weeks after he was last seen, with no word from their son, his parents reported him missing. About a month after his disappearance, a withdrawal of $300 was made from his bank account using his ATM card in Calhoun, Georgia. The security camera at the bank captured an image of a man with a jacket pulled over his face. Further complicating the case, some of Toliver's mail was later delivered to his parents by Luhellier, including returned letters with address forwarding labels to places his parents say he never lived. The case remains open, and the Anderson County Sheriff's Office is the investigating agency.
