He was reported missing after failing to show up for his first day at a new job. At the time of his disappearance, Scott was wearing an orange t-shirt with gray stripes, gray or blue baggy shorts, and sneakers.
He suffered from depression and asthma and was known to be taking medication for both conditions, though it is unclear if he had his medication with him when he disappeared. Scott also had a history of alcohol and drug abuse, and childhood trauma that led to mental health challenges.
An extensive search of the area near his home provided no clues to his whereabouts. Prior to his disappearance, Scott had been involved in altercations with a neighbor, who reportedly assaulted him twice. One incident allegedly involved someone pushing Scott's truck into a river while he was inside, though this was not reported to police. Authorities found trace amounts of blood near Scott's home, but tests revealed the blood did not belong to him.
