Edward Fritz, aged 45, went missing from Amityville, New York, on January 29, 2002. Diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1973, he required daily medication to manage his condition. Fritz lived with his mother and stepfather in South Farmingdale, New York, and led a relatively quiet life, spending most of his time reading or watching television. He was dependent on others for transportation and attended a day program at Sunrise Psychiatric Clinic in Amityville, which he visited regularly.
