Edward Fritz, aged 45, went missing from Amityville, New York, on January 29, 2002. Diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1973, he required daily medication to manage his condition. Fritz lived with his mother and stepfather in South Farmingdale, New York, and led a relatively quiet life, spending most of his time reading or watching television. He was dependent on others for transportation and attended a day program at Sunrise Psychiatric Clinic in Amityville, which he visited regularly.
On the day of his disappearance, Fritz was last seen at the clinic around 12:30 p.m. He had a small amount of money with him, $1.25 for lunch and a quarter to use the payphone in case of emergencies. He was scheduled to take a van ride home at the end of the day, but when clinic staff realized he hadn’t returned by 3:45 p.m., they called his mother to check if he had arrived home, which he had not. Despite searching, neither his family nor authorities could determine his whereabouts. There were no signs that he had planned to disappear, as he had maintained regular contact with his family and had no history of running away.
Edward's disappearance remains a mystery, and he was officially declared legally dead in June 2007 after years with no leads. To this day, his case remains unsolved, and no further information has surfaced regarding his fate.
