Martin Alan Miller, an 18-year-old from West Hartford, Connecticut, disappeared on May 1, 1980. Before his disappearance, Miller had given notice at his job at McDonald's, telling friends he planned to move to California. He withdrew $600 from his bank account, closed it, and rented a car from Avis. Ten days later, he returned the car in Huntsville, Alabama, after driving 1,700 miles, which indicated a meandering route rather than a direct drive from Connecticut.
