In the autumn of 1983, a 13-year-old girl named Shaunda Renne Green vanished from her family's home in Ypsilanti, Michigan. On the morning of October 15, her father awoke to find that Shaunda was gone. At the time of her disappearance, Shaunda was described as a Black female with black hair and brown eyes, standing at approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing around 130 pounds. She had some distinctive features, including pierced ears, a chipped upper front tooth, and a surgical scar on her navel. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance were initially unclear, leaving her family and the community with many unanswered questions. Shaunda had a history of running away from home, which she began doing at the age of 12. These prior instances, however, were always brief, and she would either return on her own or be found and brought back to her parents. Because of these past incidents, and her issues with truancy from school, authorities initially believed that Shaunda had run away again. Her mother had even sought to enroll her in a program for troubled youths due to her frequent school absences. However, this disappearance felt different. After she left in October 1983, she was never seen or heard from again, and her Social Security number has not been used since. Her mother searched for her in all the usual places she would go when she ran away, but this time, Shaunda was nowhere to be found. Decades have passed since Shaunda Green was last seen, and her case remains an unsolved and painful mystery for her loved ones and the Ypsilanti community. The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office has kept the investigation open, hoping for any piece of information that might lead to a breakthrough. The initial belief that she was a runaway has been tempered by the sheer length of her absence and the lack of any contact or activity on her records. Age-progressed photos have been released over the years to show what Shaunda might look like as she grew older, in the hope that someone might recognize her. Despite the passage of time, the search for answers continues, fueled by the hope that one day, the truth about what happened to Shaunda Renne Green will come to light.
