Despite these leads, the woman was never identified and the girl's identity was never confirmed to be Bethany's. The case grew cold over the years, marked by thousands of tips that led to dead ends, including a painful incident in 2016 when a woman claimed to be Bethany, a claim later disproven by DNA evidence. The official investigation remains open, classifying Bethany as an endangered missing person.
