Joyvaline "Joy" Martinez, a 24-year-old from East Hartford, Connecticut, was last seen on October 10, 2003. However, her disappearance was not reported until March 29, 2004, when family members grew concerned after she missed her birthday celebrations. Joyvaline lived with her mother and was last seen in her hometown. At the time, she was unemployed, and in high school, she had been a talented track athlete.
