Dennise Jeannette Sullivan, a 15-year-old from Connecticut, went missing on July 4, 1961, while on a vacation in Moab, Utah, with her mother, Jeannette Sullivan, and her mother’s fiancé, Charles Boothroyd. The group encountered a man during their trip, described as heavyset with a dark complexion, who spent time with them before reappearing later that evening. Claiming to have car trouble, the man lured them into stopping to help him.
He then threatened the group with a rifle and demanded money.
Tragically, the situation escalated when the man shot Jeannette in the head and wounded Boothroyd. Dennise tried to flee in Boothroyd’s car, but the man chased her down, forced her into his own vehicle, and abducted her. Despite an extensive search, Dennise was never seen again.
The main suspect in the case, Abel Benny Aragon, was a former Marine and war hero. He was questioned by the FBI but tragically took his own life before any conclusive information could be obtained. Authorities discovered evidence, including his rifle and footprints that matched both his and Dennise’s shoes, suggesting she may have been with him before her disappearance.
