Michael Lee Montelongo, a 5-year-old boy, disappeared on July 12, 1977, from San Benito, Texas. He was last seen playing outside his family's home. That afternoon, his mother, Enedelia Cavazos, reported him missing. Despite extensive searches and an unconfirmed sighting of Michael walking down Alamo Street, no trace of him was found. Investigators initially theorized that Michael may have fallen into a drainage ditch near his home, as he often played there, and the water levels were high
at the time. However, no body was recovered, leaving the cause of his disappearance a mystery.
There are lingering questions surrounding the case. Michael’s mother left the area during the investigation, and she eventually lost contact with the police. Although she passed a polygraph test, authorities have kept her under scrutiny. In addition, Michael had previously lost a sibling to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) about a year before he disappeared, and another brother may have died shortly after Michael went missing. Due to these factors and the absence of evidence supporting other theories, the case remains classified as a non-family abduction.
