Connie Gail Minchaca, a 17-year-old girl, went missing from Napa, California, on June 9, 1978. On the day of her disappearance, she was last seen in the late afternoon when a family friend dropped her off at a western clothing store where she was supposed to meet a friend. Connie had plans to attend a party that evening, but she never arrived. At the time, she was living with her father and had been experiencing tension with her family, partly due to her relationship with a 25-year-old man they
disapproved of. This relationship reportedly led her to sneak out of the house on several occasions. Despite having run away multiple times in the months leading up to her disappearance, Connie left all her personal belongings behind on this occasion, which led her family to believe she had not intended to leave for good.
Her family received a series of unsettling anonymous phone calls in the weeks after she vanished. The callers, both male and female, alternated between claims that Connie had been kidnapped or murdered, but the calls have never been traced, and the individuals behind them remain unidentified. The case remains unsolved, and authorities suspect foul play, though no definitive conclusions have been drawn about what happened to her. Connie’s case has since been classified as endangered missing, and investigators no longer believe she will be found alive.
In addition to the suspicious phone calls, some have speculated that her disappearance might have been linked to the crimes of the East Area Rapist (later known as the Golden State Killer), although there is no conclusive evidence connecting the two cases.
