On the day Charlotte was scheduled to leave the hospital, a man reportedly came to the facility looking for her. She was granted a four-hour pass to leave and take care of personal matters, including paying her rent, but she expressed to a nurse her fear of returning home, suspecting that the man she was trying to avoid would be waiting for her. Tragically, after leaving the hospital that day, she was never seen again. Charlotte's disappearance is further complicated by her financial struggles at the time, as she lived on a meager disability income, which remained untouched after she went missing.
Authorities initially refused to file a missing person report, and it wasn't until nearly a month later, on November 25, 1981, that her case was officially opened.
