Michael Ray Mayfield, age 6, was last seen on January 10, 1985, in Houston, Texas. He was walking home from Betsy Ross Elementary School with his 5-year-old sister, Pamela. Both children were kindergarten students at the time—Michael was repeating the year. Witnesses reported seeing the siblings getting into a green vehicle driven by an unidentified man. Despite efforts to locate them, neither child has been heard from since.
In May 1985, an anonymous caller told police that the children were living with their grandmother in Los Angeles. Although the family did have relatives in Los Angeles, none of them had the children or knew where they were. The caller was never identified, and the lead did not produce any results.
Michael is described as an African-American male with a burn scar on his right wrist and a noticeable stutter. Authorities believe the children may have known their abductor since they willingly entered the car. Despite extensive investigations, no suspects have been identified, and the case remains unsolved.
