Douglas R. MacKenzie, aged 33, was last seen on July 2, 1985, in Kissimmee, Florida. He had strong ties to his family, but after that day, they never heard from him again. MacKenzie left behind a significant sum of money in his bank account, which has remained untouched, adding to the mystery surrounding his disappearance.
MacKenzie was involved in the local biker culture, and in 2002, convicted murderer Larry David Mooney confessed to killing both MacKenzie and Carla King in Osceola County. Mooney, who was diagnosed with terminal liver disease at the time, claimed the two were killed over a dispute involving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. While King’s body was discovered along Florida's Turnpike, MacKenzie's remains have never been found. Despite Mooney’s confession, he was never charged with the murders, and MacKenzie remains officially listed as missing. Authorities continue to hope that one day MacKenzie's body will be located.
