On July 16, 1985, 6-year-old Barry Michael Brown disappeared along with his mother Carolyn and siblings, Sheketah and Brandon, from their home in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. The disappearance occurred under suspicious circumstances, with foul play strongly suspected. Carolyn's husband, James Michael Brown, later confessed to murdering his entire family. He claimed to have killed Carolyn and Brandon first in Florida before driving to Georgia, where he allegedly murdered Barry and Sheketah.
Despite his confession, no bodies were ever found, and the locations where he claimed to have disposed of them yielded no evidence.
James Brown was found not guilty by reason of insanity due to his diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia. After his trial, he was committed to a mental health facility. The family’s remains have never been recovered, leaving the case open and unresolved.
