Danyel Lou Sparpana, a 3-year-old girl, disappeared from her home in West Sacramento, California, on November 2, 1985. Her mother, Cynthia Sparpana, was found murdered inside the family home on November 5, having been beaten and shot in the head. Authorities believe Danyel was abducted by whoever killed her mother, as none of Danyel's belongings were missing except for her coat. There were also reports of her being seen wandering around the neighborhood between the time of her mother's death and when her body was discovered.
Lionel Ernest Tholmer Jr., an acquaintance of the family and a former boyfriend of Cynthia, was quickly identified as a suspect. Tholmer, who was also convicted of another murder around the same time, was charged with Cynthia’s murder and Danyel’s disappearance in 1992. Despite his defense team's claims that Danyel was still alive, Tholmer was convicted of both murders and sentenced to life in prison. Danyel’s remains have never been found, and the case remains classified as an unsolved abduction. Authorities continue to suspect foul play given the circumstances.
Despite occasional reports of sightings, no verified trace of Danyel has surfaced. The case remains open, and law enforcement encourages anyone with information to come forward.
