Elizabeth Ann Pfeifer, a 20-year-old from Katy, Texas, went missing on April 12, 1986. She was last seen leaving her parents' home to attend a party about ten miles away with five other people. Witnesses at the party reported that she became extremely intoxicated and left around midnight with a man named James Wesley Hopgood, although her friends did not know him.
Hopgood initially denied any involvement in her disappearance but later admitted that they left the party together, went to his apartment in Houston, and then drove back to Katy. He claimed that he last saw Elizabeth at a gas station on North Mason Road, where she got into a brown pickup truck driven by someone she seemed to know.
Elizabeth’s family did not report her missing until four weeks after her disappearance, as she had a history of temporarily leaving home without warning. Despite the delay, investigators soon suspected foul play when months and years passed without any communication from her. Hopgood, who was later convicted of unrelated crimes, refused to take a polygraph test regarding Elizabeth's case, further casting suspicion on his involvement.
Elizabeth had a history of emotional issues, including struggles with drug and alcohol abuse, and had previously been arrested for driving while intoxicated. She also had a tattoo of a red rose with the name "Dave" printed underneath it on her left shoulder. She left behind all her personal belongings, including her purse and identification, raising doubts about the initial theory that she may have left voluntarily. Despite ongoing investigations and interviews, Elizabeth Pfeifer’s case remains unsolved, and foul play is suspected.
