Ashley Reed, a 19-year-old from Garland, Texas, was last seen on January 14, 1990, and reported missing the following day. She had planned to meet two men, identified only as "Dave" and "Robert," at an International House of Pancakes (IHOP) in Dallas, located near the LBJ Freeway and Military Parkway. A witness claimed to have seen her conversing with a man fitting a distinct description at the IHOP, but Ashley was never heard from again after that night.
The next morning, Reed’s car, a brown 1984 Chevrolet Citation, was found abandoned on a freeway ramp about a quarter mile from the restaurant. The hazard lights were on, and the battery had drained. Inside the car, police noted that the driver’s seat was pushed forward, the way Ashley typically kept it, but her purse and keys were missing. While two fishermen reportedly found her purse near the Trinity River days later, police were unable to locate it upon investigation.
Ashley had only recently moved to Texas from Minnesota, where she was an honor student with ambitions of studying pre-law. Her sudden disappearance left investigators suspecting foul play.
