On a June evening in 1990, 24-year-old Connie Lyn Royse disappeared from Mt. Clemens, Michigan, leaving behind a mystery that has endured for decades. She was on a date with a man she had recently met, accompanied by his roommate, at a popular local establishment called the Hayloft Bar. After arriving around 10 p.m., the evening seemed to be proceeding normally. However, at approximately 11 p.m., while her date was in the restroom, Connie abruptly told his roommate, "I have to get out of here," and walked out of the bar. Surveillance footage, a rarity for the time, captured her leaving alone, barefoot and carrying her shoes, appearing unsteady as she stumbled on her way out. She left her purse behind, adding to the perplexing nature of her sudden departure. The two men she was with began to look for her shortly after she left, but they were unable to find her and returned to the bar, assuming she would come back. When the bar closed at 2 a.m., Connie had not returned. Her car was later found still parked at her date's apartment, where she had left it before they went to the bar. There was a possible but unconfirmed sighting of Connie at a payphone across the street from the Hayloft Bar that same night, near a late 1970s model car, but it's not known if she made a call or entered the vehicle. Another reported sighting a few days later at an apartment complex was investigated by police and determined not to be her. In the years following her disappearance, the investigation has explored various avenues without a resolution. The two men she was with were questioned by police and cleared of any involvement. Authorities also investigated her ex-husband and a former boyfriend, but both had alibis and were also cleared. The case has been reviewed multiple times over the years, with detectives re-interviewing individuals connected to the case, but no new leads have emerged to indicate what happened to her. The prevailing mystery is what prompted Connie, a business school student who was living with her parents at the time, to suddenly leave the bar that night and vanish without a trace. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance, particularly her state of mind and the reason for her abrupt exit, remain the central and unanswered questions in this long-unsolved case.
