Travis Jay Zwieg, a 3-year-old boy, was last seen on March 10, 1991, in Pinyon Pines, California. He had been spending the weekend with his father at a remote cabin in the Santa Rosa Mountains. Around 10:30 a.m., Travis wandered into the bushes to relieve himself while his father worked nearby. When Travis didn’t return after about 10 minutes, his father began searching for him, but Travis had vanished.
A large-scale search involving over 70 rescue workers, helicopters, and even infrared technology was conducted over the following days. Despite intense efforts, no sign of Travis was found, and the search was eventually called off due to severe weather, including snow, hail, and freezing temperatures. The harsh conditions led authorities to believe that Travis could not have survived in the wilderness for long.
Some clues were found during the search, such as small shoe prints and what appeared to be drag marks, initially thought to be from a mountain lion, but later believed to be from a dog.
