In 2013, convicted serial killer Lewis Lent confessed to abducting and killing Jamie. Lent, already serving life sentences for other murders, claimed he had disposed of Jamie's body in Greenwater Pond in Becket, Massachusetts. Authorities conducted a thorough search of the pond, but no remains or evidence were discovered. Despite the lack of physical evidence, Lent's confession led investigators to conclude that Jamie had been murdered, though his body remains missing.
